Life is sweet for self-taught baker extraordinaire, Courtney Rich. Step inside her home designed for forkfuls of fun with family, friends and a whole lot of frosting.

When we began working with Courtney on her basement renovation and kitchenette, we were instantly drawn into her world (as if her Cake by Courtney social media reels aren’t mesmerizing enough–we could watch her frost cakes for hours on end!). We were also struck by one distinct thought: There is so much more to Courtney than cake!

Courtney’s world is family, faith, fun…and yes, a whole lot of frosting. She’s a hardworking mother of two with a bustling household, a hubby and a day planner that would make anyone’s head spin faster than a cake turntable. When she came to us to design and furnish some key spaces in her home, we jumped right in.

Courtney’s home is a place where she can not only bake for hours on end, but host teenagers, houseguests and Sunday dinners. She needed a casual, comfortable (and photoshoot-worthy!) backdrop for simultaneously hosting a playdate and a business meeting while waiting for a cake to come out of the oven. Our designers struck just the right mix of basics and special items for bright, happy spots for kids and some grown up spaces too.

We thought we were content with just the cake, but we loved getting to know her and her family through the home design process. A tour through her new rooms is more fun than a cake walk; take a look for yourself!

Ample open storage displays Courtney's 3 C's: Cereal, candy and her namesake Cake x Courtney Cookbook.

A help-yourself cereal bar and retro fridge is a hit for afterschool snacks and weekend hangouts.

A trio of Simi Counter Stools is tucked away, ready to act as step stools at a moment's notice.

Minty green cabinetry matches Courtney's cheerful demeanor while a handy sink make this basement
kitchenette ever-so-useful.

The Cheeseboro Dining Table and Ventura Dining Chairs create an ideal gathering spot for snacks, board games and homework.

Comfy throws are the icing on the cake in this family room made for movie nights and pillow fights.

The Diana Chair and Medea Accent Table form a quiet moment in a bustling rec room.

The Westin Sectional is the perfect landing pad for family members and friends of all ages. Twin Ladera Ottomans add bonus seating while the Avery Ottoman is ready for naps and late-overs with a large scale and laid back vibe.

Keepsakes, art and family photos personalize a distinctive vignette.

Just around the corner from the kitchenette (with snacks in easy reach) hides a dream teen hangout complete with a pair of Carlston Swivel Chairs and playful decor for this golf-loving family.

The Pebble Beach Console ensures there's always a screen available for video games.

Tranquil art and the Lindero Queen Bed lend repose to this lovely space designed for guests.

Rich Morrison Nightstands and a colorful vintage rug stand out against a relaxing, neutral backdrop.

A spot to sit or unpack is perfectly situated next to the sleek Calabasas Dresser.

A well-appointed bath rounds out a basement renovation fit for this family of four.

The Conejo Bed brings a bit of unexpected texture juxtaposed with sleek Agoura Nightstands in the primary bedroom.

A pile of pillows brings personality and a playful pop of color to this serene nook.
