When it comes to planning comfortable and user-friendly spaces, we tend to lean toward traditional shapes and natural textures. Every now and then it's nice to incorporate some sleek shapes and textures to keep things fresh and modern in a nuanced way. Here are some of our favorite ways to give a nod to mod, FG style.
NATURAL + LINEAR
Natural textures soften the lines of these linear dining chairs.
SIMPLE + FRESH
As much as we love a good Shaker cabinet, simple flat fronts or inset panels will always be fresh.
ORGANIC + SCULPTURAL
Juxtaposing organic shapes with sculptural elements is a surefire way to get a contemporary look.
CLASSIC + ASSYMETRICAL
Classical design is very symmetrical, so for a new look, play with asymmetrical arrangements.
LOW + SLEEK
Midcentury modern design relies heavily on horizontal shapes and low, sleek profiles. Choose landscape oriented artwork and mirrors and think low and sleek for large pieces like sofas and fireplaces.
LIGHT + BRIGHT
Bright whites, lots of light and the use of glass to separate spaces keeps things open and modern feeling in a space.
